While visiting New Orleans a couple of years ago Aakomon and I sneaked into this beautiful cemetery in the French Quarter. It was closed that day and the gates were chained and locked… but that didn’t stop us! When the ‘coast was clear’ we scaled the tall cement wall fencing in the perimeter, hopped on top of a large crypt shaped kind of like a house, then jumped down from the short roof – We were in! It was exciting and scary at the same time but once we were over the wall and now inside the cemetery there was no going back. I thought I would be creeped out walking among the crypts and mausoleums of lost loved ones but it was comforting and calming in a weird way… it’s hard to describe really. I see why the cemeteries in New Orleans are considered tourist attractions with the the elaborate above ground crypts and the history of the dead now residing in these holy resting places. If you’re in the New Orleans area I would NOT suggest sneaking into a cemetery like we did – lol – but I would recommend taking a tour .

It’s that time of the year again – Summer Time!!! So, I’m reminiscing of summers past… specifically a special weekend I shared with my Sweetie (Aakomon Jones) two years ago in New Orleans. We traveled to this magical city to attend the Essence Music Festival and while there we also explored a few interesting destinations/attractions, vintage clothing stores and antique shops to start. I fell in love with New Orleans in 2010 when I visited my Sweetie for Halloween while he was working in the city – the food, the people, the culture, the music, the vibe, the shopping, the history… I loved it all! It’s such a romantic place to visit with that special somebody.
